What to think about “Question/Answer” sites?
I was on Yahoo! Q&A and wanted to share a few things with you.
Looking at the label it says “a new way to find and share information”, A place where people ask each other questions on any topic, and get answers by sharing facts, opinions, and personal experiences.
So yes this is a great idea and a noble tool but as this is a community tool, people may also use it to other purposes such as violence, racism, religious wars and to a certain extend this is frightening me a bit.
Where should freedom of speech ends on the Internet? Are people aware they can do more harm than good and that something that appears like a joke can have a butterfly effect on people’s lives?
Yahoo! took a really good approach by creating some community guidelines.
But is it really Yahoo’s duty to create guidelines. Isn’t the community smart enough to create its own rules?
I guess not, so we need policies and moderators. At the end of the day, human beings are what they are great but perfectible.
